Possibility Theory and Metaphor Induction
"The Structure of Medical Decision Making"
Perception of possibility is the fundamental level of consciousness. This is the mode in which the Universe first manifests awareness of itself - of its own nature - through the agency of the brain.
Through the application of metaphor, possibility is grasped as an object for the subject in mind. Through the ensuing subject-object interaction, possibility is actualized. This is the anthropic origin and the ultimate goal of objective knowledge.
This intentional response to the domain of possibility distinguishes human cognition from machine learning (AI). It is the source of all true emergence, the course-correcting guide in decision making, and the final arbiter of truth - in the terms of each era.
The doctor-patient relationship is the subjective milieu in which human possibility is perceived and grasped as object, formulated in the negative as illness, for its actualization as health. This creative process is described in The Medical Ethic by Dr. Noblett.
